| It’s
spring! The snow has melted, the daffodils are up and the
days are longer. Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth,
a perfect time to begin a program that gets you outdoors and
active.
According
to information from the 2005 Nurse’s Health Study, walking
for thirty minutes per day cuts the risk for breast cancer
recurrence by 40 percent. Some of the additional benefits
include a reduction in risk for heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis
and improves sleep and can help curb depression. Walking also
burns calories which can help with weight management. Walking
is a low cost, convenient and fun way to get you fit and improve
your health.
Feeling
inspired? The Cancer Survivor Center is launching a program
that is FREE to all woman cancer survivors who want to start
a fitness program called the Million Steps program. This is
a program that will work with YOUR schedule and YOUR pace.
Walking is a key component but other types of activity like
gardening, yoga, and swimming can be incorporated. Come to
our launch party on June 11 from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the Aspen
Club or call Dawn Shepard at 948-2596 for more information.
The spring
flowers are everywhere just waiting to be appreciated, so
get out there and walk.... let us help you stay motivated!
