Dear Friends,

The Cancer Survivor Center recently has passed the first hurdle in the grant application process with the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Our community implementation grant “Cycling for Life” is being now being reviewed for funding. If this grant is awarded, the Cancer Survivor Center will be offering a unique group fitness class for survivors only starting in January 2008. We will keep you posted regarding the outcome of their review.

I recently attended the National Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine where I presented a research paper written by the staff of the Cancer Survivor Center. Our paper titled ”Physical Function of a Breast Cancer Survivor Followed for One Year: A Case Study received quite a bit of interest mostly for the novelty of our approach to training cancer survivors during and post treatment. As always, we will continue to be a leader in the area of exercise programming for survivors and will present our findings to professionals in the oncology/exercise fields in order to disseminate our findings—RK.

Last, remember to save the date: August 17th at the Given Institute. The Cancer Survivor Center will be hosting a Cancer Survivorship Symposium. The event will be open and free to the public.
