Dear Friends,

Blood chemistry/laboratory testing is instrumental in helping us design your fitness program as it serves as guide to the overall health of your immune system (white blood cell production), red blood cell production, liver and kidney functions, parathyroid/bone disease, lipid and cardiovascular risk. Blood chemistry can be confusing but it is important that you have a rudimentary understanding of your results so that you can make informed decisions about treatments, rest and recovery, and even exercise.

This week, we are including an explanation of Laboratory Results (we are indebted to the Yakima Medical Clinic for providing this) and an information sheet on Complete Blood Counts (CBC's). Some of the words may be foreign to you but if you have questions about anything presented, please feel free to call us and we can walk you through the explanations. Standards or ranges for blood chemistry are dependent on the laboratory providing the testing and are not always consistent from oncology units to primary care physicians.

Finally, whether or not you are working with the Cancer Survivor Center for Health and Wellbeing, know the Precautions when beginning or participating in an exercise program if you are in treatment or are post treatment for cancer.

In health,

Riggs Klika, Ph.D.
Director
