| Dear
Friends,
From
everyone here at The Cancer Survivor Center, we would like
to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season!
With
the New Year quickly approaching, The Cancer Survivor Center
would like to present you with a special gift. Beginning January
14, 2008, we will be offering 12 free weeks of personal training
to any cancer survivor within the Roaring Fork Valley. During
these 12 weeks, you will be receiving one-on-one training
with a Cancer Exercise Specialist while learning valuable
health and nutrition information. For more details on this
program, please contact us at 970-920-5836.
We would
also like to take a minute to remind you of our Breast Cancer
Support Group. Every other Thursday at noon at the Aspen Club,
Kathleen Callahan, a Licensed Oncology Social Worker, offers
a one hour support group to breast cancer survivors. In the
upcoming year, while participating in small group therapy,
survivors will develop their own personal Survivorship Plan
while having the opportunity to hear from guest speakers discussing
topics such as cancer and exercise, meditation for stress
relief, and massage therapy for cancer survivors.
Finally,
we would like to let everyone know of a new way they can help
us raise funds in the New Year! What if every time you searched
the internet The Cancer Survivor Center earned money? What
if a percentage of certain purchases you made online went
to support our cause? Well, now it can! GoodSearch.com is
a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half of its
advertising revenue to charities designated by users. Furthermore,
GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall that donates up
to 37% of each purchase to your “choice charity.”
GoodShop.com has hundreds of stores to chose from, including,
Target, Gap, Best Buy, ebay.com, Barnes and Noble, etc. All
you need to do is go to Goodsearch.com and enter The Cancer
Survivor Center as the charity you want to support and begin
searching or shopping! Be sure to spread the word to your
friends and family as well!
Wishing
you a wonderful holiday,
The Cancer

Care for the Whole Patient: Meeting Psychosocial Health
Needs
Though more than 10.5 million people in the United States
have or have had cancer, the disease is becoming more curable
than ever. With this in mind, battling the disease is never
easy, but including psychosocial health care into your medical
regimen may boost your immune system, decrease stress, and
increase your overall wellbeing.
New Report Increases Evidence of Dietary Link to Cancer
The American Institute for Cancer Research and the World
Cancer Research Fund has released a new study confirming
the link to diet and cancer. The report continues to make
recommendations for healthy eating in order to reduce cancer
risk.
Breast
Cancer Test May Aid Patients with Affected Lymph Nodes
Researchers now believe that a genomic test may help some
women with early-stage breast cancer determine the risk
of a recurrence and the potential benefit of additional
chemotherapy even when the disease has spread to the lymph
nodes.
